Oliver thinks Captain James Cook was a brave sailor who found new places. He reads history books and imagines how fun it would be to sail the seas with Captain Cook. Matiu hears stories from his grandfather and uncle that Captain Cook didn’t just bring maps and science, but also brought big, painful changes: sickness, new names for places, and the loss of their land. This story shows that history can be told in two different ways. What feels like a new discovery for some people can feel like a big loss for others. Through their journey, Oliver and Matiu learn how important it is to listen, to respect others, and to tell history in a fair way
